Nvidia disclosed roughly $99 billion of public and private equity investments as of July 26, plus about $25 billion of additional commitments. The portfolio included a $30 billion Intel stake and several billion dollars of CoreWeave equity. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA ) is using its balance sheet to support the ecosystem that buys compute, which makes Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC ) and CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRWV ) tests of capital allocation as well as AI demand.
Nvidia's bull case is flywheel economics. Investments can accelerate customers, secure strategic partnerships, and expand demand for its hardware and software. The bear case is circularity and concentration: capital gains can flatter earnings, investees may spend Nvidia-backed funds on Nvidia systems, and weak returns could expose how much ecosystem growth relied on vendor financing.
Insider Monkey counted 285 hedge funds holding NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) at June 30, up from 275 in Q1. Ken Fisher's Fisher Asset Management disclosed 90,935,947 shares, 3% more sequentially. The filings predate the July 26 portfolio measurement.
Nvidia invested $5 billion in Intel alongside an agreement to jointly develop data-center and PC products, and the stake's later market value amplified Nvidia's portfolio. Intel's bull case is product collaboration, CPU demand, packaging, and foundry optionality. Its bear case is heavy manufacturing spending and weak profitability. One hundred thirty-eight hedge funds held Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) in Q2, up from 112 in Q1; AQR reported 10,742,567 shares after trimming 7%.
CoreWeave converts capital into specialized cloud capacity. Its bull case is rapid access to leading accelerators and long-term contracted demand. Its bear case is debt, customer concentration, capacity commitments, and the risk that Nvidia is simultaneously supplier, investor, and commercial counterparty. Seventy-one hedge funds held CoreWeave, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) in Q2, up from 63 in Q1. Alec Litowitz and Ross Laser's Magnetar Capital disclosed 52,062,927 shares, 25% fewer sequentially.
The August 14 short-interest settlement showed 58,859,603 CRWV shares sold short, equal to 16.92% of float, with 1.63 days to cover. The elevated float percentage is a structural caution, while the low days-to-cover figure argues against assuming an imminent squeeze. Nvidia's portfolio can deepen its moat, but Intel must produce competitive economics and CoreWeave must earn returns above its financing cost. Portfolio appreciation is real value; it is not proof that the underlying AI buildout is self-sustaining. Cash flows between the three companies therefore deserve more attention than mark-to-market gains alone. The cleanest confirmation would be rising third-party customer demand without increasingly generous financing or strategic support from Nvidia itself.
